ill let people train with my pitty mix, my cattle dog though will only to me if im there, but if im not around he’ll pick up on the next person,
i dont mind others work my dog, it gives them new challenges and its also excellent for her socialisation
I can’t wait to take my girls to the LVDD dock. Sadly it is all about trasportation right now.. ugh! lol!!!
Maybe but if i new the trainer was terrible I wouldn’t even let him upset my dog…. I know a trainer who doesnt let you right your own dog your way as a replacement for they do it in ANY way the want to…. one day a Border Collie barked 2 times and the trainer came up and kicked the crate HARD! Last time I went there!
Under six months ancient (minimum) I would say no unless it’s one of the rare trainers I have a high regard for, professional or not. I want my puppies raised my way because I know it produces well balanced dogs. With that, yes, if I have confidence in their abilities, for example, son, daughter, friend etc that I trust not to do stupid things. I reflect it is beneficial to the dog to have other people work them, but not just anyone.
@tuckerthegsp He will listen to me if I have him, and that is part of distraction program. Obviously dogs are bought and sold to others, and the new owners have to know how to follow through. This is also why dogs usually listen to trainers better than owners. A baby sitter is not vacant to be able to spoil your kids if you maintain your policy. Grandma may give him cookies all day.
I don’t mind other people working with my dogs, as long as they don’t teach any terrible habits that I would have to untrain. But especially puppies, I reflect it’s super vital that a lot of different people work with a puppy.
I don’t mind other people working my dog. But when he’s learning a upset new, I don’t like other people training that new mandate. I want him to learn it from me (mostly so I know he’s being taught consistently). That brings up a inquiry though fred… if Nash listens to other people, and you have him on a sit, how does he know not to leave if someone else tells him to “come”
I sure do. I reflect it’s vital for the dog to know commands and gestures and intents of different people than their owners only.
Each person has a tendency to do things a particular way, and permanently that way.
I reflect it’s especially vital to let kids do some of the training – under surveillance – (but if it’s the dog training the kids or the opposite I don’t know
